450-Hour MakerSpace Mentor/Instructor
Job Description:
AmeriCorps Innovation Hub Network Members (also called “AmeriCorps Members”) will be stationed at Innovation Hub Network locations around the state and will be responsible for engaging participants in high-quality, inclusive, and culturally-responsive STEM programming. Members will receive training on STEM activity facilitation best practices and, with the guidance of their Site Supervisor, aid in the development of additional STEM activities, lessons, and curriculums in a limited capacity. To help support the successful facilitation of STEM programming at Innovation Hubs, Members may also participate in the set up, troubleshooting, and ongoing maintenance of makerspace equipment.
MEMBER RESPONSIBILITIES:
Facilitate high-quality, inclusive, culturally-responsive STEM programming
Develop additional STEM programming activities, lessons, or curriculum under direction of your Site Supervisor
Respect and affirm the diversity of student backgrounds and experiences in your STEM facilitation
Assist in the set-up, troubleshooting, and maintenance of makerspace equipment
Collaborate with members across the statewide network
OTHER MEMBER RESPONSIBILITIES:
Use UIHNP to track participant satisfaction, demographic information, and social-emotional development through the use of pre-made surveys
Recruit, train and supervise community volunteers and/or older students to expand capacity of makerspace programming
Complete pre-service and annual training modules on the Canvas learning management system
Participate in weekly training assignments and discussions, as well as monthly collaboration group meetings about such topics as working with youth, recruiting volunteers, etc. and provide them with the opportunity to learn from AmeriCorps Members serving at other Hubs
Complete a minimum of 25/50 (quarter time/half time) community service hours to aid the community with needs beyond their regular tutoring program responsibilities (based on a Site Supervisor-approved plan). Organize and participate in community service projects on 9/11 Remembrance Day and Martin Luther King Jr. Day (hours involved are part of the community service hours)
Complete hours under the site supervisor’s supervision and record on timesheet prior to the 5th of each month
Meet all other requirements of the contractual agreement (explained and signed at pre-service orientation)
